New York, Nov 2, 2005

Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund (TMSF), an organization comprised of 47 public historically black colleges and universities dedicated to preparing a new generation of leaders, has nominated Benjamin Wells, Siemens national director of strategic technology solutions to colleges & universities, for the "2005 Founder's Award" in recognition of his commitments to advancing education and community service.

The annual award ceremony gives TMSF the opportunity to recognize individuals who display a commitment to TMSF's mission, community service, and their respective professions. The Founder's Reception Awards Ceremony will take place on Sunday, November 6, 2005 at 6:00 p.m. at New York City's American Folk Art Museum.

"It is critical for the public and private sectors to work together to give young people greater access to higher education and better prepare students for leadership and successful careers;" said Dwayne Ashley, president & CEO, Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund, Inc. "TMSF's ability to fulfill its mission can be attributed to the collaborative effort and commitment of corporations, organizations and individuals such as our 2005 honorees who work on foot to make a difference in the lives of so many young people."

In 2005, Siemens announced a joint scholarship program with TMSF and the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) aimed at encouraging minority students to pursue teaching careers in math and science. The Siemens Teacher Scholarships consist of a $1 million donation from the Siemens Foundation over five years, for undergraduate and graduate students aspiring to become teachers of math, science and technology.

TMSF and the UNCF will administer the funds, each receiving $500,000 to provide scholarships for undergraduate students majoring in education at any one of the nation's 85 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU's) that are members of the two organizations.

"I am honored to have received this nomination from this important institution that I have actively supported for many years," said Wells. "I am involved with TMSF personally and professionally in my role at Siemens, and see first-hand what can be achieved with coordination, creativity and commitment. I look forward to continuing my involvement in the TMSF and helping them expand their reach into more communities."

As national director of strategic technology solutions to colleges & universities, Wells develops tailored business solutions to help universities and colleges operate more efficiently and provide better learning environments for students. Prior to joining Siemens, Wells was a sales manager at Bell Atlantic (now Verizon Communications). He began his career at the Westinghouse Defense Center (now Northrop Grumman Defense Systems) in Microelectronics Systems Engineering.
